Private schools
parents send their children to private schools because there is a semblance of value left in those schools. something many people out there know little about. for decades these same people in order to stand fast on their principles payed tuition and payed school taxes, so the vouchers don't even touch what they've already paid for their children's educations and that is only grade schools. want to know some other reasons why they send their children to private schools? in california high school seniors given and exit exam three times over can't get fifty percent or better to pass! our high school seniors in public schools have between an eight and tenth grade education. they must start college far behind those with private school eudations by taking remedial courses. public school teachers are gradually working themselves out of jobs. what with political agendas, sexual agendas, and of course asking for eighteen percent wage hikes when joe schmoe gets maybe four percent, unionized teachers have placed their values in Al Fonde. what dollar and cents sign do you put on the values of our young people?

What exactly are you trying to get to? Problems with California, the value of students, teachers, or private schools?

I know what she's getting at and I agree with her surprisingly however, not every parent can afford to send their kids to private schools.
Public schools are not giving students the proper education and so fourth, if all parents were making 6 figure incomes I'm sure public schools would cease to exist.

Public teachers don't get paid enough, and their job is becoming more of a hazardous one. I think it's safe to say that we can put the blame somewhere else.

Yes, they need screenings. But believe it or not, most of the "passing when they shouldn't" problems rely in the hands of the administrators, who desperately want their school to look good.

I totally agree with you.The schools administrations are actually telling the teachers to just pass the students and it's only going to hurt the students later on in life. The best education comes from private schools, unfortunately not every parent can afford to send their kids to private schools.

How about the union! Some administrators cannot fire bad teachers due to the union contracts. This isn't just the teachers that do poor jobs (very subjective) but also teachers who were in court due to crimes against children (lewd behavior and such). Why are schools (read: taxpayers) pay for their salary (maybe even their legal costs as well).
Since teachers have to do something extremely terrible to get fired, do you think teachers have a little bit to much job security? Complacency breeds laziness! Not only that but it takes 6+ months trying to force the union to make the teachers work for 10 more minutes. When it comes to working hours to pay ratio, I think they make out. Practically no other job allows you to work less than 40 a week and give you full time pay. Plus they get the summer off (most work part time teaching jobs over the summer though).
I agree that the average private school outperforms most public schools, so why arent we opting for a voucher program. Making schools compete for students will force them to inprove. They have no other choice. Make parents happy or go out of business.

Re: Private schools
I go to a private school and many of us have older siblings that are in their senior year or already in college. I'm seeing my fellow sophmores having to drop out after finals on friday because families cannot afford private school and the big schools we generally go to. the minority of us like a couple of my senior friends get scholarships to soccer schools. I have been offered 3 scholarships for soccer. but i am not planning on any of those because Knox (IL) UIC (Illinois-Chicago) and ISU (Illinois State) are not big on my major. Junior year I'm callin up Drake who is big in law to see whats up.

Re: Private schools
If we got rid of public schools and went to private-only, we would see, most likely, many of the same problems developing in those schools, for any school system which must become a mass-education system will inherit many of the problems inherent to mass-education schemes.
Private schools often do better because they don't have to accept all people. Instead, they may cherry-pick and choose what ones they want to accept so as to keep their enrollment figures looking good. They don't have to deal with any problems (not necessarily behavioural) unless they choose to, and they often are smaller, less populated, and catering to parents/families in superior socioeconomic strata, which itself vastly improves educational performance.
Unless you advocate having a private system like that of the 19th century wherein only the rich and powerful minority got into them, while the majority languished, private-only systems of education do not work. You would have to make them open to everyone to provide a fair chance of education for everyone. At that moment, you will degrade the purity, quite significantly, of the "private miracle." HOwever, it is ironic that the private schools tend not to do that much better than (or are on par) with the very wealthy school districts.
