English is only one among many
Given the vast population of immigrants in the United States and the fact that 5% of the voters do speak very little English, if none, I encourage our Congress to pass a resolution which allows the information of public American institutions as well as services funded and provided by the Government to be translated into Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, etc. That way everybody who is a U.S. citizen or a legal resident will be able to understand what their Government is up to. Many people lack the time and means to learn English and it would be a discriminatory act to marginalize them because of the language barrier.
I heard in many States the Naturalization test is done in several languages. I think education should also be in Spanish and Chinese at least to guarantee that all those people who can’t speak English get acquainted with the basic cultural knowledge that is needed to succeed in this world. The decadent view that English is the only language of the U.S. is predominantly held by old-fashioned Republicans, and some pedantic Democrats, who want to close the borders to avoid any foreign penetration. But their time is almost over in this free market economy. Do as the President says: “Learn more about foreign cultures”. And teach your children to speak a foreign language at least. That’s a good way to give them a head start.

Welcome to the board.
I dissagree. When I go to China, Napal, France or Spain, I don't expect them to translate things to English simply because English speaking people may be in their country.
Education in English for foreigners is a good idea. To not require them to learn and understand the language of the land to live here is foolhardy, in my opinion.

Too true
The vast majority of people in this country speak English. That isn't discrimination. The suggestion that the people within a country speaking a common language is discrimination is an insult to actual discrimination. First of all, there are a lot of concessions made to people who do not speak English as it is. To insist that everything everywhere be printed in every known language in case somebody comes along and only speaks that language seems a little unrealistic to me. And I'm trying hard not to say what I really think of the suggestion that Americans speaking American is somehow an injustice for new people that Americans welcome into the American fold.

Florida belongs to Cubans. California and its bordering States are Mexican. Wise up. If illegals keep coming at this pace, in 20 years from now Hispanics will surpass the Anglo-Saxon population by far, and they will keep on coming because there is no way to stop them since the Government and corporate America benefit from their entry into the country. It's just a matter of time before other languages are made official.

In California, Florida and New York they do not only teach Spanish, but matters themselves are taught in Spanish for a vast number of young Hispanic people.

Doesn't it speak for itself? This country has a history of terrorism within.. slavery, lynchings, segregation, Civil war, presidential assasignation conspiray, etc. And all the legal immigrants and there descendants spawned all that. ~Inkster
