Multiculturalism
I am starting this thread to clarify a rather heated discussion we had the other day regarding Multiculturalism. I may have led some people to believe that I have no interest in other cultures and may have come across as bigoted in doing so.
The United States of America is country of a thousand cultures and this country has been enriched by the multitudes of cultures that have called America their home. However, during this time all these different and proud cultures came to accept what it is to be an American. And when I say become an American I mean they learned the accepted language English; they adopted the philosophies and ideals that made this country great, a love for freedom, hard work, and pride for being part of something as special as this country.
In the past millions of people have immigrated to this country to live the American dream, they loved our country and what it stood for, they proudly stood up and pledged allegiance to the flag; In the past when they came to this country, not with their hands out, but with a desire to work hard and make a better life for their families. They did not march in our streets demanding anything; instead they toiled through hardships and pain to achieve their dreams. The immigrants of the past came here legally, and they came here expecting to become American and they did it legally. And therein lays the problem I have with today's immigrants, both legal and illegal.
There seems to be a real disconnect or should I say a disdain and hate that today's immigrants have for this country. They are more interested in shoving their cultures and religions, and languages down all of our throats. They demand that we accept them with open arms even though they broke our laws getting here in the first place. They request special considerations regarding their religion, they demand that we accommodate their language, and they demand entitlements. Immigrants of the past came to this country mostly empty handed, yet the majority of them were able to prosper, they came with no demands, and only the desire to be an American.
As an American I am offended by the majority of new immigrants, illegal or not. I am offended that they do not want to do things the right way and try to take a shortcut to the American dream. I resent that they demand anything, and expect us to cater to them rather then do the right thing like the millions of immigrants that came before them. I hope this explains a little on my stance.....

and challenging our laws to make us accept their religious demands too.
there should be more awareness of this trend but everyone is so politically correct they won't dare speak of it.

Well much of it, but we have gone all through that. I have a suggestion for you and everyone would be behind you on it.
Why don't you start a thread about the comments made by the president of Mexico yesturday. He calimed that the Mexican border extends what is now recognized as the U.S.-Mexican border. He claims that mexicans have as much of a claim to U.S. Territory as U.S. Citizens. He is half of the problem and he is growing the problem. It started with Vicente Fox and Bush and now the current Mexican President is causing even more trouble. Gov. of Texas is not helping with his idea that Texas needs illegal workers.
Why don't you investigate and start a thread on that. You might get praise instead of admonishment!

But you do.
The original settlers of the Plymouth Colony came here seeking religious freedom. Every person that comes here has the constitutionally gauranteed right to practice what ever religion that they want.

yes, you are right, they can practice any religion they want, but not at OUR expense. Immigrants of the past came to this country and did not demand that we build special foot baths or praying rooms for them, they just made do.

Because they were all Christians.
I have no problem accomodating people who wish to practice their own version of what ever they wish.
