Young Woman Killed in Eritrea for Refusing to Renounce Jesus Christ

Christians have been left outraged by the death of a young woman in WebFile.com allegedly tortured to death in a military facility for refusing to renounce her faith in Jesus Christ, reported the persecution watchdog ministry Open Doors.
Migsti Haile, 33, died this past Wednesday at the Weaa Military Training Center and is the fourth Christian known to have been killed this way in the past year.

Open Doors said Haile was tortured specifically for refusing to “sign a letter recanting her faith”.

It is believed she spent 18 months in prison “under severe pressure” since she and nine other single Christian women were arrested at a church gathering in Keren.

The latest news of persecution will further increase international pressure on the Eritrean government to take action to guarantee religious freedom.

At least 2,000 mostly Christian evangelicals are detained in Eritrean prisons, police stations, military camps and other facilities, including even shipping containers, according to a number of human rights groups. The Eritrean government, however, has denied any such abuses.

The director of the Office of the Eritrean President, Yemane Gebremeskel, said recently that reports of mass arrests are "distorted and exaggerated."
Open Doors has expressed grave concerns over the possibility that more prisoners, including priests and pastors, may be killed by the same method of torture.

The Christian organization reported that the prisoners "remain locked up and [are] subjected to severe torture for their religious beliefs in the nation’s jails, police stations and military camps. All have been denied legal counsel or trial, with no written charges filed against them."

“We need to keep up our prayer vigil for the Christians in Eritrea,” Open Doors USA President Carl Moeller commented. “Eritrea is a small country in Africa, but that doesn’t mean the persecution is less intense than in larger countries."

In May, the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom recommended that Eritrea be re-designated as one of 11 “countries of particular concern” for 2007. In including Eritrea on the list, the report noted that “religious freedom conditions continued to deteriorate in Eritrea, where the government engages in systematic and egregious religious freedom violations….”

My wife told me about her town in Japan. After Francis Exaviar (spelling?) left, the local warlord rounded up everybody in the city, put a photo of Jesus on the ground and had everybody step on it. Anybody who didn't, man, woman or child, was killed on the spot.

I don't know if it's true, but it's local legend and they say it is.

How innovative!

One religious group kill people from another religious group because of their religous belief, both equally fooled into believing they hold the truth!

It's sad and sickening!

So now the shoe is on the other foot. Political pressure is being mounted against a sovereign nation for the way they treat their citizens.

Why is it wrong for the ambassador of Egypt to pressure sweden about cartoons unfavorable to Mohamed but it is not wrong for various nations to pressure eritrea for actions unfavorable to Christians?

The way I see it the cartoon was just a cartoon and free speech is very important. While the people were tortured and killed for attempting to practice religion which I think should be free. But these are my values. In the end each country is sovereign. Of course that means that each country is sovereignly free to pressure other countries and even free to blow them up when the channels of diplomacy fail. Will the day come when the Islamic countries come to blow us up because of the cartoons we let people publish? Or because we fail to torture our Christians sufficiently? Maybe we better keep a standing army.

How is it that I can stand back and let my fellow Christians be tortured in other countries? First there isn't really any way I can stand up and do any action that will stop this. My protest will mean diddly squat to them.

But I do believe that prayers have power and I do believe that no matter how sovereign a nation is God is sovereign above all. These governments, even the evil one's, have been established by God and permitted to become evil (free will) because God will use these thnigs they intend for evil to do good. He did not author the evil but He is still in control. Is there any force stronger than the testimony of martyrs to advance Christianity in a non-Christian nation? Believe it or not but Christian martyrs often give their lives with Joy, which is not to be confused with happiness. Which of you would not like to know the secret of experiencing a profound and intense Joy strong enough that it can even be experienced during a great unhappiness such as torture? This Joy is a fruit of the sprit and can be yours at all times; during happiness or unhappiness. This joy does not exist outside of a relationship with Christ and it's existence is an evidence for the existence of God working in the lives of believers. Do you want to know about Christianity? Then seek a person who demonstrates the fruits of the Spirits and ask to be shown. Don't just ask anybody who claims to be a Christian but really seek the children of God - they are the only one's who can answer your questions. You will know them by their love. They will be "marked" as separate and holy by the love they live. They will not be perfect but spirit within them cannot be hidden. Seek and you will find.

Hey sorry if I got a bit preachy it is just the way I was lead to type.

That is not a just government, nor is property secure under it, where the property which a man has in his personal safety and personal liberty, is violated by arbitrary seizures of one class of citizens for the service of the rest.

See...

This is what I'm talking about..

When you start mixing in fantasy gods and what they (the fantasy gods) want, it becomes an unbearable mess.

Start by producing evidence for your god (which btw is the same as the islamic god). Once you have done so and the existence of a god, any god has been established, we can talk. Until then, ALL religous laws or fantasies are bad.

Ain't it the truth!~

Christians killed thousands of women for being witches. This is the same thing. Religion kills.

In Nepal they recently slaughtered to goats at the airport to appease Akash Bhairab, the Hindu sky god.

In the USA gays are not allowed to marry because Christians say they cannot.

In Iraq women cannot walk the streets without a head scarf.

Imagine no religion.

How christian or mormon like it is of you... Wow, I'm impressed with your love for your next man and your compassion. I guess you can't be bothered to actually LIVE a religous life, can you? Nor to live by the principles yours and other religons were created upon.

Not really a surprise that you are such a flagrant hypocrite!
