What someone else makes is irrelevant. And, while I agree that teachers should make a decent wage and athletes should be paid less, sometimes making enough to get by on and being rewarded with the fact that you have touched many lives will be enough for many people.

I agree that teacher's salaries should be more competitive. I think our schools also need to have higher academic standards. My husband went to a british school for 5 years (6-10 grade). He said their schools were much more challenging, but after the first year of adjustment, he did well. When he came back to the U.S. and finished high school, he got straight A's, and never even took home a book or had to study. He said it was too easy. We need to expect more of our children - I think they can rise to the challenge.

Exactly. My friend said her brother is in italy and he already knows 3 languages. Well she is struggling to learn spanish. Our grades 1-12 suck. Our universities are good but k12 sucks.

I was fortunate enough to have the time to homeschool my daughter. I know that some school districts are terrific and some are not but, I didn't want to roll the dice. Best thing I've ever done.

No, you can't have my constitutional rights, I'm still using them!

Mr Con: A lot of Generals bought into the plan and the plan to remove Saddam Hussein was handled flawlessly. It is the aftermath that didn't go well at all.

The teacher is less productive than the basketball player so he gets paid less. See the teacher only educates maybe 30 kids a year but the basketball player entertains maybe 4 million per game.
And a lot of teachers make more than 33k.yr. My wife is a teacher and she makes 59k this year and will make almost 70k next year. Unions are great when they are on your side; they only hurt the rest of the people who live in this country.

That is not a just government, nor is property secure under it, where the property which a man has in his personal safety and personal liberty, is violated by arbitrary seizures of one class of citizens for the service of the rest.

As much as I generally enjoy your posts, that is some of the worst reasoning of anything that I have evr seen in my life. Can you even compare trhe value of education to entertainment?

Athletes can only do their job for about 10 years and then most likely won't be able to get a job again and are also never home for half the year. Teachers can do theirs for 40 and get three months off to do nothing. That is also why there is a difference.
Athletes are also paid by a private institution that generates revenue and their direct involvement in the institution generates the most revenue. Teachers are not.
My school required you to have a master's to teach in our district (k-12) and started you at 85K, 10 years ago.

I will buy your edit, I don't see the validity of your first point.

So I should give someone millions of dollars because they failed to get an education and prepare themselves for their future?
And you really mean to tell me that you don't think anyone will hire say....Roger Clemens when he retires? People would be lining up for his services.
Besides that.........Knuckles is getting a job isn't he?
