Awesome News: Senate Passes Oil Drilling Bill

This is a great day as the senate passed the drilling bill 75 to 25 with overwhelming support. We can now drill in over 8.3 million acres in the Gulf of Mexico in places that were off limits previous. It will create jobs in the oilfield and boost domestic production easing the reliance on foreign oil. A great day for oil companies as well as ours. I don't think it's good news in any way, shape or form at all. Instead of keeping on drilling for and depending on oil, we should be making a much more concerted effort into finding and developing alternate and renewable fuel technologies. Oil isn't going to last forever, and I think this is like putting a band-aid on an amputation. We're headed in the wrong direction, yet again.

You just can't stop drilling all together so you can look for alternate resources. Believe me, this is the right way to go.

You can re-allocate funding for alternate energy technology.. it's been there for 50 years but Big Bro Oil supresses it... ~inkster

This isn't putting a bandaid on an amputation, it is putting a tourniquet on the patient to save their life while transitioning them to the hospital. It is a defeatist attitude to say if we can't fix it all at once we shouldn't do anything. If we develope our resources at home while continuing the search for alteratives, we then can reduce the stranglehold that the oil-producing nations have on us and it will improve all our lives.

Funny. When we run out of oil, how will we explain that? And what excuses will we have when our great-grandldchildren are cold in their homes?
We are making a wrong turn and we need to be turning our attention to the future and alternative fuels.
Also, what is wrong with turning our attention to alternative fuels, knowing oil wil not last forever?
I think my point is made here.

Oil will always last as long as there is Organic matter.Us humans have been here only a micro fraction on the geologic time clock compared to hundreds of millions of years of life that are now extinct and are considered fossil fuels. Whats with everyone? Think!!
