When I say welfare and/or poverty...
what images, ideas, or reasons behind their existence come to mind?

Either one that you mention conjures up images of filth and squalor.

Single moms with manicures and designer clothes with kids who have 2 sizes too small filthy nasty clothes on with week old snot dried noses eating pork and beans from a can with the lid still attached by a thread and drinking koolaid from an old peanut butter jar while sitting on a slice of bolony that was dropped 6 days ago but noone picked up on the blackened off white couch with snags and rips in it.

And from the peanut gallery....

So I guess it would shock you if I told you that 40% of the families who live in officially recognized poverty, have at least one full time working parent?
Or that most people get off 'welfare', but are back on it soon, simply because they have had a child that has gotten sick, or some other expense that forces them out of their work?

So I think it would be a fair compromise that if we end corporate welfare, we should also end regular welfare. Fair is fair, right?

The constitution provides that government has a responsibility to society as a whole, but the truth is that corporations have collected more welfare than any program that has been developed. Companies are not people, therefor they have no rights or entitlements. People have rights and we as a society have a responsibility to each other. I don't like the term welfare because I beleive that assistance is a better description of what the government does and needs to do! That should answer your question.

I know about that 40% but you asked what comes to mind. Of the people I actually know who claim to live in poverty and/or on welfare, this is the scene. I understand not all in poverty are this way.
