Thoughts anyone?

She'll get caught if she hides it. Guaranteed. Most companies do background checks as is for jobs now before they give an offer.

Re: A Felon's Resume
Yes hide it. Consider that SMEs will not really scrutinize your background, on a civil service or an MNC (even this doesn't really does that kind of checks) it may be possible.
For someone who has a prison-record, I could suggest a skills upgrade and some study before a job. In this way, you will add value to yourself and improve your prospects.
I am not saying that you lie or something, but rather that it's the past, no point hanging on to it. You need to walk away, upgrade, educate and live on. Don't let your past stop you from living!

Not exactly.
Most companies claim to give "background checks" but rarely actually do it.

Re: A Felon's Resume
I'd lie. If it was short-term inprisonment, you were travelling the world. If it was longer-term, you were taking education abroad and have faked papers to match your lies. Lie, lie and lie some more.

Re: A Felon's Resume
This is a really terrific question.
I've sat on several HR hiring boards and I can assure you that it is becoming common practice to thoroughly check information in resumes. Even though a person has been hired that doesn't mean that their resume won't be subjected to scrutiny within the first year of their employment. The hospital which I associate with has a strict policy that any intentional inaccuracy on a resume results in immediate summary dismissal.
That said, a criminal conviction is not always a hinderance in obtaining worthwhile employment. The applicant needs to be open and explain the nature of the conviction, what they have done to turn their life in a positive direction and why they would benefit their potential employer.
Frankly, any business which has a broad policy about hiring felons is probably not a business worth working for.

Why would you put a felony conviction anywhere NEAR a resume?!?! That's for the application. I wrote resumes for a living and not once have I ever been faced with "Hey, I have a felony, where do I put that on my resume?"
On an application, it will ask you if you have ever been convicted of a crime, sometimes for a certain period of time, 2 years, 5 years, but I think most ask about being convicted of a felony EVER. My company asks for the last two years and it's only local, not national, so they get some pretty shady NYers coming down there (no, NOT me!!) getting in with convictions from out of state.
If she says no on the application, and signs it, she would be guilty of giving false information and could possibly be committing another crime. Let her talk to her parole office first, see if they can find her a job with a company that knows she's a felon so she doesn't have to worry about hiding it.

At any rate. I think Karl Rove is really lucky to have you helping him out Shadowman.
