Israel: no more diplomacy for Iran
Israel: no more diplomacy for Iran
Quote:
Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz threatens that the opportunity for a negotiated solution to Iran's nuclear program has diminished.
"The strategy for now is one of sanctions, of a united front of nations in that context, and the strategy of declaring without any doubt that all options are on the table," Mofaz told public radio.
"I think like others that the option of using military force is the last resort," he said, but "it's clear that the opportunity for a negotiated solution is diminishing."
Earlier this week after a visit by Mofaz to the United States the two countries agreed to form two working committees in an attempt to draw up a joint strategy against Iran.
Washington is engaged in nuclear cooperation with Israel, which unlike Iran is not a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Both allies have been seeking to portray Iran as a threat to the global security although the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed the peaceful nature of Tehran's nuclear activities.

Re: Israel: no more diplomacy for Iran
I wonder what the odds are for cooler heads to prevail. Our proxy war with Iran by way of Israel in Lebanon proved Iran isn't a push-over like Iraq.

The National Resources Defense Council says Israel has 75-200 nuclear weapons, while Iran has none.

Prague, 27 October 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Iran’s President Mahmud Ahmadinejad yesterday cited comments by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic revolution, when he declared, "As the imam said, Israel must be wiped off the map."
On October 26, 2005, IRIB News, an English-language subsidiary of the state-controlled Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, filed a story on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's recent speech to the "World Without Zionism" conference in Asia. The story was entitled: Ahmadinejad: Israel must be wiped off the map, [1]
