Let me say this to anyone who wants to say that bush is the best president a guy could ever have and has done everything right....

What about immigration. What about the 12 million illegal alliens that are in this country taking our jobs.( it is probably closer to 20 million) And dont say they are jobs that americans wont do. Besides people legally entering our country would do them for the right amount of pay.

Bush has f*cked up royally with this. Some AMericans that were born there have lost jobs because of this and are probably taking unemployment government services etc. no more illegals

Alkaline, remember that this problem existed long before Bush, and will exist long after he is gone. Also, your average Mexican can not afford the fees, which are equal to over three years average wages there. They are seeking freedom and an opportunity for their children to have a better hope than them, barely able to feed thier children on deplorable working conditions.

But let me ask you this. When was the last time you applied for a farm day labor job?

Yes, but don't forget; Bush promised to get rid of them and did nothing besides invite them in with his guest worker program. I bear a grudge against illegal immigrants because they don't just take farming jobs as your suggested, a lot of demographs suggest that they work a lot of construction jobs which used to pay rather well. A local survey in Oregon (about a year back I think, I caught it on the news) said that about 30% of illegals work construction.

The percent of those working on farms (which Oregon is in NO short supply of) was less than 10%. Then you see a lot of Mexicans (not all of which are illegal, but I'm sure a lot of them are.) work in fast food and if you think Americans won't work in fast food or construction then you're sadly mistaken. I've been trying to get a job for a few months now and I wouldn't mind working at a McDonalds, but no one wants to hire me, why would they when they can get Pedro to work for beans?

I decided to do some reasearch, and spoke with the Oregon Department of Economic and Community Developement. According to the State of Oregon, legal immigrants get paid no less than naturalized citizens in fast food OR construction. The average wage across the board is $35,000 - much higher than where I come from, and much higher than where I live now.

They did tell me that some counties are suffering badly in the job market, while others are doing disproportionately well. Maybe you just need to look for jobs outside your county? Either way, according to your government, Mexicans are not stealing unwanted jobs. The lack of job availablility is not about race. It is a problem across the country, even where there are no Mexicans, and Oregon is not even close to being the worse off. In fact, I live in the state with the highest umenployment rate in the country, and we are on the Canadian border. Oregon is right about the middle, with a 5.6 percent unemployment rate. Where I live (highest in the nation) is 7 percent unemploymnt rate as of last month. This means, according to your state, 93.4 percent of the Oregon population is employed, averaging an income more than a third higher than my own.

Employers hire the person they think will do the best job, based on qualifications, professionalism, personality, demeanor, resume, and such consideration. Perhaps you need to try harder and be more cheerful/professional in your job interviews? I say this as a former business owner who used to be the one hiring/firing employees. Race and origin never entered my consideration. Attitude, professionalism, demeaner, character and experience ALWAYS factorred in.

Illegal immigrant are taking a great toll on US economy. They don't pay taxes but take full advantage of them-medicare, public schools, welfare...If an illegal qualifies for welfare, that costs the state $1100 a year per person. And thats just for welfare...so fuck the illegals. I can't blame them for seeking a better life, but if you don't pay the taxes, get the fuck out of this country.

Exactly what I keep saying! The illegals take the construction jobs, plumbing jobs, electrician jobs, gardening jobs, fast food restaurant jobs, janitorial jobs.......I had cable internet installed last year and the funny thing is, Comcast says on their recordings and faqs (when first signing up) that the person at the house must be English speaking, but then Comcast sends a person to my house that doesn't speak English!! WTF!? (I call the office and they tell me they just grab Mexican day laborers to do work for them!!) WTF!? (again!) I'm confused...I have to speak English, but the worker coming to my house doesn't?! Wha? What?
The gardeners that my next-door neighbors have a contract with, they keep blowing rocks and leaves and such into my yard and all over my driveway. I explain to them that they can't do that and to please clean up the mess. They tell me they don't know English (how do they know I'm speaking English? I could be speaking French or German or Russian to them!) and just walk away. I have to tell my neighbors, my neighbors have to call the main office, the office has to tell the gardeners and guess what...........the gardeners keep blowing stuff all over my yard and not cleaning it up. Anybody ever use a broom and a dustpan anymore??!!
And I would apply for a farm worker job or picking fruit as long as I got breaks, a lunch, plenty of water, sun protection (hats, suntan lotion) and medical insurance. I know, I know, you righties and bleeding heart liberals say, "That's asking for too much! Your trying to work yourself out of being eligible for a farm worker job. It's just easier to hire illegals. They'll work for cheap, no insurance benefits, less breaks and won't complain about the working conditions!" Go ahead, say it.

yea it was a problem before but Bush could have stopped this nonsense and rounded up the 12 million illegals and their kids(that they had here:that are now considered citizens........i dont believe they should be cause there parents broke the law) and sent them back.. They broke the law, its taht simple and tehy are taking jobs.

SHouldnt we be taking care of americans first? and then accept LEGAL immigrants into the country at a rate that we can handle them. Of course they want an opportunity for their children but they should change their corrupt government and start a democracy down there and clean up the place.

Opportunity for their children. There are business that get kicked out of government and other contracts becasue a certain amount of the companies have to be minority and taht puts companies and people out of work. SHouldnt we be taking care of our own AMERICAn citizens first???????

The bottom line is: illegals will be here forever. neither party wants to do anything about it. Guest worker programs? What a joke. Granting amnesty to over 14 million illegals? Go ahead. In 5 years they'll be 10 million more illegals.
