Smoking Ban Affecting Pub Takings
Quote:
|
The owner of a traditional Glasgow pub believes regular drinkers are drifting away because of Scotland's ban on smoking in public places. Lyvinia Lyon, of the Saracen Bar in Possil, said it had lost many of its older customers. Her comments came as the Scottish Licensed Trade Association (SLTA) said a survey indicated sales of alcohol in pubs had fallen. She told BBC Scotland: "There's a big difference in the trade. "The old drinkers can't sit with a drink - their half and half - and a cigarette. "There's a lot of old punters and it's the old punters who spend all the money. There's a lot of them who don't come now.

Re: Smoking ban affecting pub takings
GRRRRRR....
Your chances of dying of lung cancer as a non-smoker:
10 in 1.000.000
Your chances of dying of lung cancer as a non-smoker living with a smoker:
12.5 in 1.000.000
In other words, second-hand smoke is BULLSHIT.

Re: Smoking ban affecting pub takings
Second hand smoke kills 350,000 Americans EVERY YEAR. It kills more people than Breast Cancer. It kills more people than all drunk driving accidents and drug overdose death's combined in the US. According to drug studies, nicotene smoke is more addictive than cocain, and kills hundreds of times more people than cocain.
Smoking is bullshit. Deadly bullshit.
You think that 10 out of a thousand (one for every hundred people) is a low number? Do the math compared with the US population, and you will see just how staggering the number is.

Re: Smoking ban affecting pub takings
Ah, 350,000 people a yeah. Let me tell you, the original number was 3,000 people a year. During the research, "scientists" used all kinds of evidence to support second-hand smoke to achieve the desired number of 350,000. For example, if you died, and you lived with a smoker, that meant you died from second-hand smoking. Even if you really died of...a car accident.
The reason smoking kills more people than cocaine, because much more people used it than cocaine. How many smokers are there? LIke 21 million? Doesn't matter. Imagine 21 million cocaine users O_o. Same compared to other drugs.
Myself, I don't trust drug studies sponsored by the government. They will tell you that, for example, marijuana causes cancer, depression, paranoia, low sperm count, brain damage, and all of these things are just simply not true.

In Spain somoking is also ilegal in public places and in some bars. I don't care what happens to economy in that sector because I am so happy I have a longer life now (let me be selfish sometimes)

Re: Smoking ban affecting pub takings
Basically, the EPA made a study in 1993 that suggested second-hand smoking caused lung cancer. But, in 1998, our own government officials debunked the study in which the facts were cherry picked. The EPA also ignored its own results that suggested that lung cancer didn't cause cancer. So basically, our wonderful EPA faked the study! And people bought it, and now the indoor smoking ban spread like a tumor.
Of course, there will always be those that will suggest that all major tobacco heretics agree that second-hand smoking causes cancer. Take, for example, the American Lung Association, the Cancer Foundation, the Heart association etc. (didn't bother to look all of them up...). But what is the source of the claim for all these foundations? That's right, the flawed EPA study.
Again, fuck the numbers even if they are on my side. Smokers are not to be treated as second-class citizens. Sure "my health is more important than your liberty". It's not all about you. People who are for the indoor smoking ban are trying to make a better world...for themselves, and certainly not for others.

Re: Smoking ban affecting pub takings
I don't give a flying fuck about statitics on second hand smoke. I don't like the shit and I shouldn't have to inhale YOUR habit. If I want to drink or do drugs, I am only affecting myself. Smokers AFFECT EVERYONE AROUND THEM PERIOD. So those stats are worth nothing and should be used as ass wipe because that's about all they are worth in my mind.
Don't subject me with your habit.
Of course as always, not directed at anyone even though I went off pretty good

Re: Smoking ban affecting pub takings
If you don't like the stuff, don't breathe, or go somewhere else then.

Re: Smoking ban affecting pub takings
so, for someone else's habit, I have to go somewhere else? Don't think so. I will not be the one to change my location due to someone's habit that happens to affect everyone around them. My habits don't affect others.
