I agree on all points. Perhaps Hell is freezing over?

I agree with most of your statement. The waste is huge. I say eliminate the county run school system for a state or federal one.
Schools are too local. Some neighborhoods do not have enough money while others just a short distance away are swimming in it - not that money will solve all the problems.

On the other hand the fed is too strong now.

But I have no problem with the states controlling schools in each state.

That is not a just government, nor is property secure under it, where the property which a man has in his personal safety and personal liberty, is violated by arbitrary seizures of one class of citizens for the service of the rest.

The idea of counties running schools is archaic. I say state control would be better.

I could be wrong, but don't private school teachers get paid less on average than public schools teachers?

If you have someone on ignore because you don't like their opinions, do us all a favor and just leave, moron.

Though... I'm sure Catholic schools kinda rip those statistics to shreds...

In most cases.

I am sure there are several reasons for this. My guess, in order of importance, would be:

1. Private salaries reflect the real market worth of the job.
2. Private schools don't have the money beause the parents of the kids that go there are paying for education twice.
3. Teachers who are dedicated to a particular ideal embodied by the private school are willing to accept less in order to teach there.

If private schools were on an equal footing with public schools they would pay better and still provide the better education they have proven they can offer. Stop making parents of kids in private school pay twice and everything will equalize in a way that is most efficient and teaches kids best.

That is not a just government, nor is property secure under it, where the property which a man has in his personal safety and personal liberty, is violated by arbitrary seizures of one class of citizens for the service of the rest.

My point was that paying teachers more doesn't matter.

Private schools (INCLUDING religous schools) do a better job at educating children than public schools, yet the teachers get paid less.

The reason some schools are swimming in money is they do not have the burdens that poor urban areas have. Violence in the schools...more security. Large populations of non engliish speakers....big expensive ESL porgrams. Students delinguency.... Larger staff of truent officers. The list goes on and on. The rich communities do not have this burden. I do not think money from area a should go to area b because they cannot get their collective acts together.

You have an excellent point there. A crappy tax base does not make for a very good school.

I would have to add that the incredible levels of bureacracy imposed by the local, county, state, and federal education departments is ridiculous.

I don't think it should either, but the people in area A will suffer too when the people in area B end up being a bunch of losers. It is just self interest for the people in area A to take an interest in the people in area B.

So what is the best way for the people in area A to make sure that the people in area B learn stuff?
