Has global warming stopped?
Quote:
Global warming stopped? Surely not. What heresy is this? Haven’t we been told that the science of global warming is settled beyond doubt and that all that’s left to the so-called sceptics is the odd errant glacier that refuses to melt?
Aren’t we told that if we don’t act now rising temperatures will render most of the surface of the Earth uninhabitable within our lifetimes? But as we digest these apocalyptic comments, read the recent IPCC’s Synthesis report that says climate change could become irreversible. Witness the drama at Bali as news emerges that something is not quite right in the global warming camp.

Re: Has global warming stopped?
Move along - just another media pundit confusing weather with climate.
I love these people - 187 governments were at Bali all but a couple were trying to hammer out solutions to this problem - solutions we can ALL live with without destroying the global economy.
And we STILL have those on the sidelines denying there is even a problem.
This particular media pundit shows an abyssmal lack of even the most basic understanding of what climate change is about. He does I will concede talk of the effects of aerosols - so he has THAT much right at least but he does not include the effect on the oceans, the effect on the ice caps (which are still melting by the way) the rise in atmospheric moisture.............
In other words he has deliberately simplified the science down to rubbish in order to underscore a point.

Re: Has global warming stopped?
The fact of the matter is that the climatologists don't know shit.
One certainty: There will be new ice age in less than 15,000 years. No ifs. No ands. No maybes. That's what's going to happen.
If it gets a little warmer between now and then, good. I'm sure a lot of people would love to surf the Aleutians. But in the end, people will be hiking between Siberia and Alaska again, and they'll be doing it on dry land.

Well you are right of course many people including those in the media constantly refer to (todays) warm weather as evidence of global warming. But they do not say anything about the weather as evidence when it is cold outside. This winter has just started and it seems rather cold to me here in the midwest of the USA. Last Winter was rather cold too or atleast average feeling. This whole .5 degrees warming is really quit a minor reading shift and relies on accurate readings of temperature hundreds of years ago on earth. I mean really. does anybody suspect we had accurate readings of the entire planets surface a hundred years ago? Half the earth was still aplying leeches to people who were ill for goodness sake. Scientific readings was not exactly common place around the globe then.

But we do have evidence not only of what the climate was like 100 years ago but also 1.000,10.000 or a million years ago
Ice cores + tree growth rings + sedimentation rates in lakes + pollen distribution + a whole lot of other data. Your local weather in the US is more dependant of ocean currents and I know this year there is a la nina so it is somewhat cooler.

No - last winter was very mild, and last summer was the hottest ever recorded, at least where I live. As you yourself have said, you can't take your local weather conditions and make predictions about the whole planet's climate from that. Recent years have been the hottest on record, globally, though I'll concede that accurate measures only cover the last hundred years or so.

Re: Has global warming stopped?
I love the deniers they are like a man sitting at the bottom of a mountain where a huge avalanche is approaching and claiming that because they have built a wall of two pebbles held together with spit they will be OK.

Re: Has global warming stopped?
always with the company line ," it is climate not weather." what a load. How long does it take for weather to be come climate? as long as it is in favor of GW. That's how long.
The % of c02 attributed to man is about .032% of all green house gases and somehow this is the answer to all our problems. it is a BB in a boxcar , like whizzing in a cesspool technically it adds to it but in reality you cannot tell the difference.
This pundit obviously is an uneducated weatherman wannabe, because that is what all the anti crowd is. " No you do not understand what it is really all about!" Same old tired hot air arguments and tactics that make every thing that happens caused by GW.
