Re: Flouride Exposed
Thanks Michael
My kids - now jr adults - brushed daily with flouride toothpaste. At one time there dentist gave me supplemental flouride pills for them.......
I chucked them when I got home. I knew then, as I know now, my children didnt need a supplement. They needed to brush daily and eat right....Do'h! (Im always wary of "supplements")
They all have excellant teeth to this day.
Im so glad I made that decision because it was just the start of hearing all the harm too much flouride can do. Thankfully I dont live in an area where the water is flouridated - or my kids would be on bottled water!

You have to watch the bottled water as some actually have fluoride. Also does gum, some candy, and there are others. I will see if I can find an article with all the foods that contain fluoride, I can tell you that they want to put it in ice cream, ice cream I can't believe it.
Well that was easy; http://www.nofluoride.com/presentati..._beverages.pdf

Re: Flouride Exposed
Not having fluoride is bad. But anything in excess is bad. I was told even as a child that you should switch from fluoride toothpaste and non-fluoride toothpaste from time to time to avoid getting too much fluoride. I don't think this is a new study.

In the wild, there is no healthcare. In the wild healthcare is 'Ow, I hurt my leg. I can't run. A lion eats me, and I'm dead.' Well, I'm not dead. I'm the lion. You're dead.

Maybe for the same reason that many African nations won't use condoms.

Exactly. Perhaps we should review the recommended fluoride levels. But no reliable study suggests that we should eliminate it entirely, and that's the angle I contest.

No offense Michael, but I would rather not emulate the dental habits of Europe.

I actually do get bottled water at home, Im going to have to check into that. I get Sierra Springs.
Ice Cream....ICE CREAM!! wonder who is making all the money behind this scheme.
Thankfully, I have a son who has a "delicate" tummy (he was diagnosed with high functioning autism at age 5) and one of the biggest factors dealing with him has been diet. The less additives, fillers and all around garbage that gets into his system - the better his behavior and stomach problems. At 17, he himself has realized the benefits of eating right.
So Ive gotten accustomed to buying mostly organic and wholesome food. We are not vegetarian by any means, but that doesnt mean you cant eat wholesome.
Again....who is backing this? Is it the ADA or is it the pharmecuticul companies? Would be interesting to know.

Ah Michele you ask the most difficult questions, not because I don't know the answer, but because without a handwritten confession, you or most on this board would not believe me. I will say that the idea was sold to the ADA and the government, that is all.

Freckles....having spent a lot of time in Britain, I dont think its because of a lack of flouridation, but was a lack of hygeine from earlier generations. Thats quite changed these days, and the familes I stayed with, the younger kids had great teeth while there elders did not.

I just read an article that the UK now uses fluoride. So does Canada and Australia.
Fluoridation was introduced into the UK in the 1960s when areas in and around Birmingham and Newcastle were fluoridated, along with the Republic of Ireland, making up 11% of the UK population. The Government has now decided to introduce fluoride into public water supplies throughout Britain, with target areas of Inner London, North-West England and Northern Ireland, with the aim of reducing tooth decay among children in “deprived” areas.
Under the Water Act 2003, water providers will be obliged to add fluoride to their supplies. According to a letter from health minister Hazel Blears and environment minister Elliott Morley to the deputy PM John Prescott, “those who remain adamantly opposed would be able to use water filters that remove fluoride or buy bottled drinking water”.
