Re: The Meaning of Life
i see the meaning of life as whatever you make it. if you want your purpose to be to serve a god then thats your purpose. if not a god then whatever you do is your purpose. as their is no actual reason that we are here we can make our own purpose in life and thus find our fulfillment in life.

The answer is 42!!

This sad little lizard told me that he was a brontosaurus on his mother’s side. I did not laugh; people who boast of ancestry often have little else to sustain them. Humouring them costs nothing and adds to happiness in a world in which happiness is always in short supply.
R. A. Heinlein
At present, the internet allows one to claim anything, relationship to royalty, physical attributes and expertise they do not have...........

Wow, a member from Nepal. How cool is that! I am so ignorant, I didn't even know you could afford internet over there. I am pretty sure that my thoughts on the "meaning of life" would be somewhat different if I lived in a country with so much poverty. I don't really think you can say that there is any meaning in life. I like that idea. Kinda laidback.

They have facilities there alright, so it really depends if you are earning a thousand dollars or more in Nepal (in their rupees, if I am not wrong).
On the post, I was left quiet... because all I was left with was 'intellectual' comment that I could not argue with or for. It also failed in the area where it claimed no scientific doctrine could be proven.
ALso, the meaning of life is a question that, for me, isn't the province of the metaphysical since life is matter, and matter... life.

For the sake of discussion, accepting your proposition that life is matter and matter life;
Merely existing offers no answer for the "meaning of life".
Non-cognitive matter has no "meaning", only purpose. "Meaning" (the end purpose or significance of something) exists on the higher metaphysical (or *gasp* spiritual) plane.

The real reason for life is sustenance. You sustain your kind - it is an every day process. You eat to sustain, you reproduce to sustain, you educate to sustain. The key word here is sustenance, hence to preserve life. What's the most frequent activity of any known manner of life? They feed.
On the basis of metaphysical reasons, anything in addition to survival will only make the fundamentals easier and guarantee survival.

Life is contingent on sustenance, not the reverse, therefore sustenance cannot be the purpose, or "meaning" of life.
Survival is not the meaning of life. Survival is existence that's all.
For life to have meaning, there has to be a purpose outside of ones self. A greater goal than making it to your death bed after procreating.
