Barack Obama is a threat to our national security. He has no experience, only elegant rhetoric. I will be grateful to him if he is the one who puts billary out of the loop. bill and hillary, in additional to kerry, pelosi, reid, jimmy carter, gore and the other nutcase liberal crazies are the lowest common denominator of this political arena. They prey on the uneducated and illiterate and depend on them for votes. They are full of lies and propoganda and they appear to want us to lose the war on terrorism, to have a bad economy, to destroy our military, destroy the greatest health care the world has ever known, decimate our intelligence capability, etc., etc. They know that if they can convince the uneducated and illiterates that they are for "the children" (I wouldn't let hillary near "the children") they will get the illiterate and uneducated nutcase votes... which count the same as anyone else.
The media is in the liberal pockets too. All you hear from the mass media is how bad things are... claiming that we are in a recession when the very definition of a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative growth in the GNP. We haven't had one negative quarter since the clinton presidency.
Liberals only deal in emotion and rhetoric... they cower at the truth. They always respond with emotional rhetoric. While I respect their rights to voice their opinon, however misinformed, they are, imho a threat to the future of our country.
I'll leave my introductory comments at that... for now.

Hello everybody. My name is Michael and I live in metro Atlanta. I am a "card carrying" conservative (but not exactly like Adman). I have and continue to support George Bush who has been an average President, in spite of letting spending get out of control and having a questionable border policy. Otherwise, he has been very decisive and he has succeeded mostly in protecting America from the terrorist threat. Who would have thunk that there would not be another successful terrorist attack since 911? Amazing.

It is beneficial to have an ally in this part of the world. Bush has done the right thing in Iraq and I support him fully. We are winning the war in Iraq and Afghanistan... we are winning the war on terror. But we can't be there forever.

I fixed your spelling of propaganda......(wink)

NEW YORK - This isn't even that much fun anymore. Burying the 2008 Yankees has become too darn easy - like practicing layups on an 8-foot rim or beating a 4-year-old at checkers.

Here are the numbers according to your referenced source:
(first column is enlistment, second column is deaths of US Servicemen and women)
Carter
1977 NA NA
1978 NA NA
1980 2,050,758 2,392
Reagan:
1981 2,093,032 2,380
1982 2,112,609 2,319
1983 2,123,909 2,465
1984 2,138,339 1,999
1985 2,150,379 2,252
1986 2,177,845 1,984
1987 2,166,611 1,983
1988 2,121,659 1,819
Bush 41:
1989 2,112,128 1,636
1990 2,046,806 1,507 August -- Desert Shield begins
1991 1,943,937 1,787 Feb -- Desert Storn begins/ends
1992 1,773,996 1,293
Clinton:
1993 1,675,269 1,213
1994 1,581,649 1,075
1995 1,502,343 1,040
1996 1,456,266 974
1997 1,418,773 817
1998 1,381,034 827
1999 1,367,838 796
2000 1,372,352 758
Bush:
2001 1,384,812 891
2002 1,411,200 999
2003 1,423,348 1,410 March -- Iraqi Freedom begins
2004 1,411,287 1,873
2005 1,378,014 1,941
2006 1,412,362 1,875
By any measurement, the casualties prior to, during and in-between the two Gulf wars are not near the levels of Vietnam or World War II. Plus, the difference in casualties in peacetime vs wartime from 1980 to 2006 do not show a dramatic difference... indeed even during the current Iraq War, the casualties are less than those in recent peacetime years. Btw, these numbers reflect total military deaths.
Liberals like to compare the Iraq War to Vietnam. There is no comparison in terms of military casualties. The worst year of the Iraq War, 2005, was lower than the last two years of the Carter administration. In addition, bill clinton (who "loathes the military" reduced the enlistments in the Armed Forces while "gutting" the CIA...l

I'll acknowledge that some of the numbers I posted are apparently inaccurate, yes. I got it from a "viral" email, and I didn't check them out as I should.
But, they seemed accurate... and my points are still quite valid, regardless...as follows:
Quote:
|
But, having said that, the actual number of armed forces casualties have been higher in peacetime than those during the Iraq war.
|
This remains true.

|
Here are the stats on casualties from 1980 to 2006 (casualties have declined dramatically since 2006, btw.)
|
This is true... since the troop surge, US Casualties have fallen considerably.
Quote:
|
(note that there were 14,107 military casualties under bill clinton who was severely distracted by his (sexual abuse of women) deviant habits.)
|
Adjusting this to reflect this source results in 7,500 casualties...still a considerable number.
I can only surmise that the numbers were manipulated by the originator of the email... it was a mistake for me to post it without checking it out more closely. I apologize. (you'll seldom, if ever see a liberal do that, lol.)
Nevertheless... my overall points are just as valid.

I don't interpret it that way. It seems that casualties are still less under peace time. Obviously this in relation to recent year. But even if we compare to those Carter years which were Peacetime deaths, you got to take into account for the higher number of enlistments
comparing 1980 to 2006
(2,392 / 2,050,758) * 1,412,362 = 1,647
1,647 is the number we would have had if the same percentage of accidental deaths were used. This is lower than 1,875 of '06

I would agree that Vietnam was much worst for the US.

This seems to be a trend since the Soviet Union collapsed. Hell, Bush Sr. reduced enlistments more than Clinton did in half the time.
