In looking at the statistics further the 2 that spend the most money per student:

Boyertown…70% take SATs….506 math….494 verbal…..482 writing…50% go to a 4 year college….22% go to a 2 year college….3% join the military
Masterman, in Philadelphia ranks highest for SAT scores with 100% of the students taking them....scoring 618 math...599 verbal...606 writing...100% go to a 4 year college. The money spent per student is $12,077.
There was alot of information in the report but I wanted to focus on the spending per child. Chester Upland spends the 2nd highest amount of money per child, and they have one of the worst performances in the SATs, and percentage of children going to college is low. Also, 96.4% of graduates failed state reading or math tests- the highest rate in the region-essentially receiving empty diplomas....overall 47% of seniors failed these tests.
Their budget is already $94.5 million per year. It should be obvious that money is not the issue here.
Also, Pennsylvania is now introducing proposed legislation for 6th graders to begin taking the PSSA tests--or a new set of state tests before they could graduate in 2014. Does anyone else see something wrong with this? Why would they change the tests? They should focus on better preparing the students.
