ABC News: Actor Snipes gets 3 years, apologizes for `costly mistakes'

Read the above and then tell me this: Wesley Snipes argued that the US doesn't have the right to collect taxes. I also heard this from a co-worker or mine. Is this true? If it's not, then where is the law that says that it is legal and when was that law passed?

We've had an amendment to the U.S .Constitution for nearly a century that gives the federal govt. the right to collect income taxes.

Here's the whole story:
Quote:
Q: Do Americans really have to pay income tax? I have been told the 16th Amendment, which authorized the income tax, is invalid because Ohio was not legally a state at the time of ratification.

A: It all started when Ohio was preparing to celebrate the 150th anniversary of its admission to the Union in 1953. Researchers looking for the original statehood documents discovered there'd been a little oversight. While Congress had approved Ohio's boundaries and constitution, it had never passed a resolution formally admitting the future land of the Buckeyes. ...
Read the whole thing here: The Straight Dope: Is U.S. income tax invalid because Ohio wasn't legally a state when the 16th amendment was ratified?

So what is the argument of the people who say it is not legal?

I wouldn't go so far as to call it an argument, more along the lines of wishful thinking.

Defensor on bigotry and the teachings of Christ.
Where's James Earl Ray when you need him?
Stinger, comment on the level of other people's knowledge.
Quite frankly I find that those who post the invective as you have are the most uniformed out there
Defensor not realizing that as a citizen he has the right to vote.
Whites aren't allowed to vote for their own interests.
