Actually what happened is those dixiecrats from George Wallace's time are mostly dead. Those people did not morph into new younger people. George Wallace later in life became a born again Christian and renounced his activities during the Alabama segregation era. Even still he did not suddenly become a Republican.

Well he renounced his activities during the segregation era cause he knew he would be dying soon and wanted to be sure he would make it into heaven. Maybe thats also why he did not suddenly become a republican.
