22,000 killed in Burma and death toll likely to rise
Quote:
Burmese authorities now say 22,000 people were killed after the cyclone slammed into the Irrawaddy delta on Saturday, while 41,000 are missing.
Foreign Affairs Minister Stephen Smith says $1 million of the new aid money will go to Australian aid agencies.

Australia pledges $3m for Burma - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
This promises to be a humanitarian crisis of monumental proportions - apparently the number of homeless is in the millions - the satellite photos say it all really.
BTW Kudos to America who have also pledged aid despite the fact that the ruling Junta will NOT let anyone with an American passport into the country.

This sad little lizard told me that he was a brontosaurus on his mother’s side. I did not laugh; people who boast of ancestry often have little else to sustain them. Humouring them costs nothing and adds to happiness in a world in which happiness is always in short supply.

OMG I never saw those photos side by side. Thats insane.
I started reading about it yesterday and it was at 10,000 and now up to 22k. I have a lot of thought on this but seeing those photos leaves me speechless.

What did we give?

In the wild, there is no healthcare. In the wild healthcare is 'Ow, I hurt my leg. I can't run. A lion eats me, and I'm dead.' Well, I'm not dead. I'm the lion. You're dead.

I don't know, but China is much closer to burma. They should give 1000 times that much, as they're SOO wealthy now.

I highly doubt the Burmese government will spend any money given to them on relief.
