I'm using "the government" to mean all levels of government from county to state/Provincial to federal to the FDA to the Post Office. Just a collective "The Government"

I've never called the fire dept. and only the police twice in my life, once when my house was vandalized and once when hitting some asshole in the head with a baseball bat didn't get him to leave my house.

I collect unemployment when I'm unemployed and this spring got $160.00 from HEAP.

Are you offended by the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?

How is that any different than anything else anyone has said?

I pay my taxes, I get government services. The question I'm asking is what services do we, individually, actually use. This in order to guage if we are getting our money's worth.

I wasn't aware anyone here had implied that the government had money to give away that didn't come from taxes. I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone say that anywhere at anytime. The government is, in my mind, the people that control our tax money. That's all they do.

Other than Medicare we do not pay into that type of system. Hell that will be done away with just about the time that we need it.

If you saw me right now reclining in a beat up armchair, wearing my jock-strap, suspenders and toque, typing with a hockey stick and petting the family moose you'd remember.

When the missus and I got married in the mid 80's, we came to realize we could not afford child care. We decided she would be a full time Mom. My wife applied for and recieved WIC for about 3 years. By that time, I made too much money. That's it.

I went to public schools for 13 years, but the schools here are shit holes and not worth the taxes.

I went to community college, that was one of the better uses of my tax money. I go to a private University now.

I get no aid what so ever, and I have always worked/payed taxes

I need some money back, for the shitty products that are a result of my tax dollars.
