Gas prices have been way above the national average here.

Today, the average here is $3.84.

Oil record high, dollar record low....

124.74 per barrel

But not to worry the record will not hold for long.

Gas has been shooting up in the last 20 minutes. We might break another record. Oh joy!

If you can get gas for $3.85 a gallon for regular around here (Sonoma County, CA) you are getting a bargain.

Well Bush and the Fed are timing or at least attempting to time the exhaustion of negative savings/credit to hit in April/May 2009. Given how he used Katrina to break the back of the Democratic party in Louisiana I wouldn't bet against him. $5 gas might interfere with his timing so I think it unlikely we will see $5 gas until after he leaves office. The most likely course of action:

Iraq withdrawal will be a bigger mess than the war so $4.xx gas in january 09.

The partition of Iraq will lead to $6-? gas no later than june 09.

Avoided foreclosures will come due about the same time and will be blamed on Iraq withdrawal. Spurious reasoning but it will work well enough to gut the national Democratic party especially given Clinton and Carter as Obama's predecessors.

A bigger and better 9/11 will probably result from the partition of Iraq and that will end the credibility of blaming Bush for anything.

Bush is the most partisan president since Roosevelt or Truman but much smarter in how he destroys his enemies. Obama is too short term in his thinking to develop any useful counters. $15 gas by 2012.

Gas prices will go back down pretty soon. Eventually oil companies will begin losing money because people won't be able to afford as much oil and the price will drop immediately.

A barrel of oil jumped to $125.96 today, up a couple of bucks.

I won't disagree with you cause I don't know. I do believe that the US oil industry is cynically watching our consumer behavior and gas prices may trend down a little to prevent a marked change in our behaviors. You're never going to see sub $3.00 gas again though. Yes the Oil industry wants us to use oil.

I think it is $3.79 or so in Northeast Florida, although to tell you truth I don't even pay attention anymore. I have a 351 Windsor V8 in my workvan, so it doesn't do me much good to even keep track. All I can say is my wife's Subaru 4 cyl gets plenty of use. I'm thinking of getting an old Ranger or S-10 for small jobs and daily use.

I stopped paying attention to gas prices 2 years ago. It's only going to get worse.

Hall of shame 2007

And that was your quote from the 4 dollar gas thread a matter of weeks ago. Is $3.79 anywhere near 4 dollars a gallon?
