Mate, they had just *one* shot on goal. I was watching it and was absolutely shocked at the result! Every player back in his own half chasing the ball around and hacking away at the slightest opportunity!!
I thought Barnsley result was more of a shocker really! Tsk tsk ... Liverpool getting knocked out was the best moment I had in the competition... then came that 4-0 route of Arsenal... I thought it was in the bag, until Harry Rednapp and his tactical plan ruined it for United... I thought it was a triple against this season... until that match...

The first few matches won't do. Give it some time, and you'd start feeling sentimental about the teams you support. I started watching football watching Manchester United, since theirs is a very attacking approach, it was a great experience to have watched Cantona, Pallister and the rest. Later, when they won the infamous triple in 1999, I was hooked.
It was a fairytale story, a team made up of local lads going on to conquer Europe, rags to riches. It was a great era...

Yeah mate. I really felt for John Terry (the guy who slipped before taking the penalty). Later he couldn't control his tears!!!
But this was an exact scenario last year in another cup competition in England (FA Cup) where it was a tight affair. So a lot of Man Utd fans think they've evened things up since Chelsea were considered to be 'lucky' then. The first half was good, I guess.
I just downloaded the match, I am going to watch it a couple of times again! If you watch teams like United and Arsenal you'd eventually end up appreciating their style since it's terrible quick, and very entertaining! Depending on the types of commentators, I recommend listening to old-school commentators such as Martin Tyler and Andy Gray, very informative experience.

Not really, the first half we ruled the game. Statistically, Man Utd had more possession, a better passing rate and accurate tackles. Also, their players spat at Carlos Tevez and one player, Drogba, got sent off for slapping another player.
I don't think they were the better team, they had their spells, and they failed to score from open play, the earlier goal was due to deflection too.
I think the better team won, the first half was all United!

I wasn't happy because Portsmouth played well. The method of their victory is unimportant - the significant factor is that they knocked Man Utd out.

I think one of the problems Americans have with getting into football is the low scores. If you're used to American football, or basketball, where people score all the time, it must be a bit strange to start following a game that has regular 0-0 results, and where more than 5 goals overall in a game is pretty uncommon.
And to nitpick - Cantona and Pallister weren't exactly local.

The average Championship side is a damn sight better than such greats as Sliema Wanderers, FK Sarajevo or Rapid Bucharest, but they get to play in Europe all the time.

The PK's were awesome. It's funny how many of the "best" strikers seem to screw up on PK's.
