So I logged into com.politicalhotwire.www//:http…
First of all, no matter what I typed in, I was registered as RepubliDave. It was embarrassing, too. Everything was a repetitive and simplistic recitation of right wing platitudes with links to Youtube videos and blogs. I had to quit posting and just lurk.
Budgie is probably my favorite over there. She’s this sensuous and sensitive herbalist grandmother who offers wellness advice like a shaman! But the most impressive thing is she heads up a young black poets program, that’s funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. It’s amazing some of the work from that program that she posts.
Budgie gets help from a slightly younger earth-mother who posts as InDeed. She’s one of those people who’s very earnest and sincere to the point that everyone defends her when the right-wing Neanderthals attack.
Speaking of righties, there’s Mudslinger. He’s incredibly polite and very religious. His positions are nutty, but he’s so meek and mild mannered that you can’t really fault him. But you gotta watch out for Redneck and Clamchele, two of the bitchiest conservatives there. Then there’s this nutty conservative guy with an Elmer Fudd avatar who loves to hunt. I think he’s a stock boy at a drug store, but he’s always bragging about his lab coat.
So Budgie and InDeed had a really cool thread going about African-American poetry slams and censorship. And this batshit insane Slovak woman named Butte comes in and starts busting on rap, about how black American music has debased an otherwise great nation. She’s actually trying to emigrate here! Here’s hoping Homeland Security does the right thing. She’s almost as nutty as Laith, the teenage Teddyboy who loves all things American, especially Eddie Cochrane songs, to the point of writing in Southern vernacular while using British spellings! Funny stuff. He’s about as whacky as OverlyEducatedGreg, the Asian guy with a weird fetish for WASPy women.
It turned into a flame war and of course Budgie is just too likeable, so all the lefties like Group’o’Men (gay guy and incredibly tough debater), Thorax and Akron jumped in to her defense. You can’t help but love Budgie. She uses Shirley Chisholm for her avatar. Veldt—kind of a plain-jane uber liberal—got some licks in, too. LBJ, on the other hand, had to be a dick—as usual—and start calling Budgie out for being a “witch”…she’s an herbalist and does practice some nature worship, but he had to make it an insult.
It got ugly. Then Moles came in. Moles is one of the brilliant moderators. I read that she was an honors graduate from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she got a degree in humanities and now works for a free-clinic in District Heights outside DC. Moles handled it masterfully, communicating fairly with everyone. Even the righties gave her credit. She got a little back-up from another mod, StephenT…very wise and fair. But for the most part Moles demonstrated the kind of analytical objectivity that can defuse any situation.
After that, Melting Pocketwatch posted a really nice tribute thread. He’s kind of an over-the-top socialist, so he has a soft spot for Budgie and Moles.
It’s pretty weird going over there. I can’t stand being RepubliDave as I’m such an asshole, but the mods really have their acts together.
I’ll keep a journal if anyone’s interested.

Re: Just got back from Bizarro Internet! Might be helpful...
I ran into InDeed just last night. Well, she ran into me.
See, WilmaLeBlanc showed up on one of her rare visits. She's delightful and everyone loves her because she passes out random greens for no reason! When she does post, it's always something funny.
Anyway, I forgot that I was RepubliDave over there, so my message came out really rude...I was awful!
So InDeed jumped on my shit. And Cheerio...god! What a writer. He wrote this amazing 400-word screed quoting Keats, for crying out loud, to put me in my place.
I love it over there, but I HATE RepubliDave.

Actually you got it wrong RepubliDave. I checked in with my alter ego tweezer and he was actually raving about how humble Pat Buchanan is. Tweezer also has a really cool avatar.

I heard he reminds many of a New Deal Democrat, and Roosevelt is his all time favorite president.
Here is his avatar:
