We share some things Australia and America but some things we see differently (After all Australia is the only country in the world to have a national holiday celebrating a famous victory - for the other side!!

)
I was wondering what American veterans thought of Australian Vietnam songs like
"I was only 19" by Redgum
From Vung Tau riding Chinooks to the dust at Nui Dat
I'd been in and out of choppers now for months
And we made our tents a home, V.B. and pinups on the lockers
And an Asian orange sunset through the scrub
And can you tell me, doctor, why I still can't get to sleep?
And night time's just a jungle dark and a barking M.16?
And what's this rash that comes and goes, can you tell me what it means?
God help me - I was only nineteen
Redgum - I Was Only 19 (A Walk In the Light Green) LYRICS
"Khe sanh" By the inimitable Jimmy Barnes and Cold Chisel
I left my heart to the sappers 'round Khe SanhAnd my soul was sold with my cigarettes to the black market manI've had the Brazil Travel cold turkeyFrom the ocean to the Silver CityAnd it's only other vets could understand(I won't post the rest of the lyrics - they are a bit raunchy

)
Both songs were pivotal in changing people's views about those who served in Vietnam and brought a recognition (delayed too long) of what those young diggers had gone through.
