Not really a racing fan, but from observation I'd say compairing the two is like compairing Hockey and Soccer. F1 clearly tests the drivers ability to take corners cleanly, shift well, and maintain the maximum speed just to out run opponents.
NASCAR is different in that all the cars are supposedly on an even playiing field (I don't really believe that), at any rate it's close enough that the top cars are constantly jockeying for position and worrying about optimum aerodynamics in relation to other vehicles. That seems to be the biggest difference, F1 is about pure speed, NASCAR is about strategy.
