I have just lost two Aunts to Ovarian Cancer - and I have to wonder if there is not a link like there is to HPV. And again dying from Cancer is a slow nasty death.

Now you claimed that they are putting "live" cancer cells in vaccines - please give me a link and I will read it I think what you are talking about is attenuated viruses but I need to be sure.

Um, that's how vaccines work. They contain weakened versions of a virus, which triggers the body's immune system to create the antibodies necessary to kill off genuine infections later on.

When Salk developed the polio vaccine, the vaccine contained weakened polio viruses. Technically, you could say "SALK ADMITS INJECTING POLIO VIRUSES," though which correct, would be grossly misleading. Especially to the uninformed.

Depends on the vaccines. Sometimes dead, sometimes "inactivated," also called "attenuated." Bowerbird correctly used this term earlier; you should probably listen to what he has to say.

In the meantime, Wikipedia puts it nicely:

• Vaccines containing killed microorganisms - these are previously virulent micro-organisms that have been killed with chemicals or heat. Examples are vaccines against flu, cholera, bubonic plague, and hepatitis A.

• Vaccines containing live, attenuated virus microorganisms - these are live micro-organisms that have been cultivated under conditions that disable their virulent properties or which use closely-related but less dangerous organisms to produce a broad immune response. They typically provoke more durable immunological responses and are the preferred type for healthy adults. Examples include yellow fever, measles, rubella, and mumps. The live tuberculosis vaccine is not the contagious strain, but a related strain called "BCG"; it is used in the United States very infrequently.

Of course.

Your mistake is that you are holding the role of the "virus" as a constant when it comes to all vaccines.:

1. Virus X is capable of causing bad disease.
2. Vaccine X is made using dead or weaken versions of Virus X.
3. Vaccine X is injected into a patient, causing the patient's body to generate the necessary antibodies to fight Virus X.

All of this is true. However, when considering cancer vaccines, the situation changes.

Cancerous tumors are not the direct result of a virus. They're clusters of mutated cells that are being ignored by your immune system because they're technically a part of you, share your genetic code, and therefore don't register as an invading bacteria or virus.

So the problem is ... how to you get your body's immune system to attack something that's invisible to it?

One solution is to make the tumor genetically different from you. Then your immune system will sit up, take notice, and get to work on fighting it. But changing millions of cells something on the genetic level is an immense task.

You'd need a tool capable of attacking millions of cancer cells, individually, and rewriting each of their genetic codes.

You'd need... a virus. A specially-programmed virus that is capable of carrying a foreign payload, such as genes for tumor antigens. The viruses CAN tell the difference between a mutated cell and a healthy cell, and will inject the antigens into the tumor cells.

This causes the tumor cells to light up on your body's immune system control panel, which in turn sends out the cavalry to combat the cancer cells*.

So you see, the virus plays a completely different role in cancer vaccines than in conventional vaccines.

Quite frankly Michael I am not sure WHAT you are talking about - that site you linked to is not exactly mainstream - looking at the other stories they read like the worst tabloid trash - I was expecting to see stories about Men In Black and aliens.
