Because a score of 18-12 makes goals a lot more boring. How can you get excited about 18 different goals? Manchester United only scored an average of 2 goals per game in the Premiership last season, and they won it - and in that sort of sport every goal is special. The anticipation and tension can build for 90 minutes and then be released in one explosive cataclysm of joy when you scrape the single goal of the match. They're the moments that make football special.

Maybe the problem is all the other countries seem to have national teams in which they cheer for and we don't? I don't know, I do know it has been exciting for me with my daughters team.
I get the same feeling when I watch in tv though. I give them credit for being very athletic, but I just can't get into it.

You have a national team, and you're free to cheer for it if you want! You're down to 21st in the world rankings now, but you've still qualified for every World Cup since 1990 and won your last three continental trophies. Admittedly, your continent is hardly the most difficult to win, but that's more than many avid footballing nations could dream of.
Edit: but either way, you don't have to support the national team to love football. I don't really care too much how well England do. Club over country, any day of the week.

Re: Soccer.....I don't get it
I don't understand any sports threads, why watch someone else workout when you could be at the gym?

short shorts and tight buns - what more do you want?
Soccer players wear FAR less than football players and, well I mean - nice show boys

Re: Soccer.....I don't get it
I will never understand why everyone who doesn't "get" soccer or doesn't like soccer, the first thing they mention as to why is the low score or the no score. So the score is the only thing that makes a game exciting?!
Yes, I'm biased because I've played soccer since I was a little kid and find it very exciting and skillful to play. It's more exciting to watch on TV or in person than golf, baseball, basketball and football.
You guys like hockey, right? That goes into shootouts sometimes. And is somewhat similar to soccer, but soccer has a bigger playing field. And, hey, hockey has a SMALLER goal than soccer!
But to run non-stop while dribbling a ball and kicking it while moving and controlling it when receiving it from another player and maneuvering it around players, is fascinating and takes a lot of stamina and skill.
But obviously, in my lifetime, most Americans will STILL not get soccer and always complain about it, mostly because of the low scores.

Re: Soccer.....I don't get it
I rarely watch any sports but Jags games because they are the local team. To me you scout in order to improve your own game. I understand amateur players watching to pick up technique but just being a fan I don't understand. When reading Tarzan as a child I wanted to be like Edgar Rice Burroughs.
