Default PS3 or 360?

I'm thinking about getting one of these for my kid. A couple friends of mine have 360's and they've all had problems with overheating, anyone play both? Suggestions?

My daughter got a Wii for Christmas. My nephew has an XBOX and now is jealous of his cousin, my daughter.

I'm not much of a gamer at all, but the Wii is fun for me.

And yes, this didn't answer your question at all.

PS3 hands down. I read an article about the XBOX 360 and customers were returning the systems due to overheating.

Quote:
All hardware launches are afflicted by a small percentage of problems; and it seems Xbox 360 is no exception. The forums today include some irate Xbox 360 owners who are experiencing overheating problems, likely to do with the hard drive. One owner claimed Microsoft had stated it had "received numerous calls".
Xbox 360 'Overheating' Problems Emerge : Next Generation - Interactive Entertainment Today, Video Game and Industry News - Home of Edge Online

Quote:
The game console heats up during use, and given enough time, the temperature inside can reach very high levels due to insufficient cooling. Because of the way the Xbox 360 is constructed, this may result in stresses building up between the delicate ball grid array solder joints of the CPU and GPU and the motherboard, causing them to break. The problem is exacerbated by the specific type of lead-free solder used, a type which is more brittle than the older tin/lead solder that was used in the past and the GPU's location directly underneath to the DVD drive.[29] A possible design goal of the Xbox 360 hardware team to have a form factor significantly smaller than the first generation Xbox is rumored to have contributed to overheating issues.

Yeah you and me both. A friend of mine has an older 360 (without heating issues) and my son loves the racing games and I was going to get him one. My wife loves it too. But until they fix this issue I'm just going to have to see if something else will suffice.

Save your money Sparta, Take him on a trip, or do something together. Video games suck and really takes away from the things that we did as kids.

I don't know, I played video games as a kid. The difference between my experience and the experience of a lot of kids today is my parents limited my time. My son now plays on the computer a couple hours a week, but it's reserved as a reward to be cashed in on rainy days. We still read, he's learning chess, and he's still an outdoor sort of kid. He plays basketball in the drive way so much Pete Marivich would have gotten bored hanging out with him. I'm (we're) very fortunate like that. Everything in moderation is my motto.

That is a good motto, and I totally agree. We have an old playstation 2 and two games. My daughter is limited during school days to an hour of computer/tv/video game .....her choice each day. In the end, she almost never plays it. She likes some games, but she likes the computer more now. In the summer I am a bit more lax, but I get on her a lot when she starts spending too much time inside.

I'm with you Sparta, my kids are all outstanding students and very active in sports, scouts, etc. A few years ago I decided to get 'em a console for Christmas, the wife and I went back and fourth over the issues until I agreed not to do it. But to our surprise, Christmas morning Santa had left a game cube, extra controllers and a few games! Mrs. Engine-Ear was way pissed at Santa-Ear, who claimed complete ignorance. Game cube was selected because they offered no adult-themed titles, mostly the Mario stuff. We always did and do maintain strict limits on when they can play, works well. This Christmas past I bought a Wii, Mrs. Ear was again a bit heated up, until I set it up to make sure it worked, she ended up playing it nightly in the basement for a couple of weeks leading up to Christmas. It is also backwards compatible with all the game cube games, controllers, memory etc. Their uncle gave them an older X-box and a bunch of games, they definately prefer the Wii, but like you said, Modereration is the name of the game, it is certainly not impossible to spend quality family time playing a video game, I'm not much of a gamer, but I enjoy when the whole family gets together and plays shooting games or bowling or racing or baseball!

Michele: (and yes Davo...I actually have quite the lewd and rude mind...and its probably best it stays right there)

PC's are still hands down the best platform for serious gaming.
