Default 13.7% unemp + 8% inf

On my way to stock screens on MSN I saw a commentary "Contrarian Chronicles" that claimed the Fed was using cooked books the unemployment data cited was on page 2 at the end of the paragraph being completed from page 1. The 8% inflation figure was the lowest figure I could recall having been actively defended in this forum. Other defensible numbers have put the current misery index (unemp + inf) as high as 30%. If momentum continues 50-80% could be as near as May 2009. At what point will the economy collapse?

Quite true and I'm not trying to steal credit I really am wondering about complete economic meltdown. I have maybe 3k in precious metals at current prices and I am wondering about how to adjust my portfolio and in what direction to and how fast to do so.

Being in a position to give even a little food to someone who is hungry pays great dividends.

Quite true. Also while my silver is US currency my gold is not. That is another area of concern.

Actually everywhere but between numismatic and bullion value almost no one uses it as such. A $20 US gold coin (value well north of $1200 in very poor condition for any year) can be used to pay any $20 debt. In some countries, Russia being the biggest exception, the unofficial numeraire is another metal such as platinum or silver but gold coins are accepted.
At current prices $1 meg bullion weighs about the same as $1 meg in 100s. A bit more than 60 lbs each. Drugdealers have not yet switched to gold but it is coming.

But not at face value. The folks minting "Liberty Dollars" learned this when they paid their staff using $20 gold coins from the U.S. mint (made for collectors), and valuing them at $20 when they filed their taxes.
