Default Prove homeopathy works, win £10,000 ($19,700 USD)

Quote:
Want to win £10,000? Then prove that homeopathy works in proper clinical trials in which half the patients receive the treatment, half receive a placebo, and no one knows till the end who got what.

The challenge was issued on Monday by Edzard Ernst, professor of complementary medicine at the University of Exeter, UK, and science author Simon Singh, in the wake of what they call a smear campaign against them in response to their book Trick or Treatment, which explores the scientific evidence behind complementary remedies. "We're saying to homeopaths, 'put up or shut up'," says Singh.

I'd like to go on record as saying that if anyone can prove homeopathy works in proper, double-blind clinical trials, then I will happily add every penny I own, both testicles and a lung onto the prize.

Homeopathy DOES work. But it is not the substances (that aren't there in some cases because of the extreme dilutions) that are working.

Placebo effects are well known with other "non-working" comparison medication in clinical trials as well. But people report feeling better.

I thought feeling better was good? With the additional benefit of filling the pockets of homeopaths.

The research so far has been interesting

Homeopathy study wins few converts - 27 September 1997 - New Scientist

A homeopathic remedy based on arsenic oxide has shown "highly promising results" in mice poisoned with arsenic, say Indian scientists.
The homeopathic antidote reduced the liver toxicity induced by arsenic in mice, where distilled water did nothing, and alcohol actually exacerbated the poison's effects.

and this is the best one - look at the Belfast research , which for some reason will not copy and paste at the moment

I am not saying I believe but that there is an anomaly we have not quite worked out here.

This sad little lizard told me that he was a brontosaurus on his mother’s side. I did not laugh; people who boast of ancestry often have little else to sustain them. Humouring them costs nothing and adds to happiness in a world in which happiness is always in short supply.

R. A. Heinlein

At present, the internet allows one to claim anything, relationship to royalty, physical attributes and expertise they do not have...........

It works. But the big drug companies want you to keep buying and using all of there drugs that do nothing more than mask the symptons. I have gotten rid of all of my conventional medicine at home and replaced them with homeopathic remedies. They all work and I'm not having any problems or side effects.

I think you may have misunderstood what chu chu was saying. They work in the same way that a glass of water would, if someone convinced you it was a miracle cure.

Chu-Chu is close to right but the evidence for the otherside is lacking. Given that medical error is a leading cause, maybe THE leading cause of death in the US and most other industrialized nations this is about the only sound argument for socialized medicine. When the MDs go on strike the gravediggers go on vacation whereever socialized medicine is on offer or when the waiting line is too long.

Socio-biology and selection is a fact of life and death not a political option

Politics is a continuation of war by other means

Calling congress a parliament of whores insults the morals and principle of crack whores
