Re: Do You Know Why Oil Prices are going Up
As the price per barrell of oil was nearing 1.40 USD the oil companies supplying fuel to Laos were going to raise the price of fuel and diesel above price margin for the increase of the price of crude.. The Lao Govt said f%&@ you and promptly closed all petrol stations for two days..Showing consideration they placed ads in the media announcing their intension.. The oil companies backed down but only raised their prices in accord with the price of crude.. Here is a small underdeveloped country not allowing the oil companies dictate to them.. Why can't the US, the UK, Europe etc do the same?? The answer is tax,,fuel is taxed in these countries lining the government's coffers at the expense of the consumer.. Capitalism at its worse..
Fuel in Laos isn't taxed like in the US, Europe, the UK and Australia.. The Lao Govt goes one step further and subsidises all fuel.. Sure the roads are shite but fuel is realitively cheap compared to most Western countries..
There is no rail network in Laos.. All commodities are transported by road and keeping the price of fuel lower the price of commodities are kept down..
Its about time Western Governments show some spine and tell the oil companies where to stick there prices..And while they are at it drop the fuel tax..
