Default Any cyclists here?

As an attempt to be a reformed smoker, I started riding a road bike, and did my first big (well 40 miles, big for me) ride on Saturday. I got to tell you, aside from the vomiting, it was freakin' awesome.

Tick, on the disparity between Republican and Democrat intelligence levels.
And as a leftist loser he is intelectually inferior to real Americans.

You barfed?

You should check out your local gym's spin class. Those classes are amazing! They will kick your ass though.

In the wild, there is no healthcare. In the wild healthcare is 'Ow, I hurt my leg. I can't run. A lion eats me, and I'm dead.' Well, I'm not dead. I'm the lion. You're dead.

Yes I did, and I was damn proud to do it. I also could not get my shoes unclipped at a stop sign, and ate it.

haha. I have a TREK something or other, it's the base model racing bike. Talk about adicting, I love it. Had I known it was going to be this bad ass I would have bought a better one. 40 miles is a hell of a start Prag, hope you stick with it.

That's real conversation for your ass.

Oh and the clipless pedals are great, just takes a bit of getting used to. Best advice I've gotten so far is to pull the pedals as much as you push on them, you'll notice the difference right away.

That's real conversation for your ass.

I need to know the bike brand and the components. If I get the wrong answer I can't be bothered to talk wid youse 'bout it. Like Spar whatshisname up there. Although falling because you couldn't unclip the first time or so, is a good thing.

Can you answer yes to the below:

Ever shave your legs?

Ever ridden in a peloton (pack) in a race?

What is a respectable average speed for 40 miles for a solo rider?

Hate to sound like a snob , but I have to know if you're serious. No I mean serious.

Fuck no, I just did, and 40 miles took me 3.5 hours. My bike is an old Trek 1400 with Shimano 105's and downtube shifters. My pedals and cleats are Chinese knock off Look clones, and my shoes Izumis.

If you have a shower at work and the weather where you are isn't too wet and cold, you should try riding to work. Save lotsa $$ on fuel and get fit, too.
I knew a guy who rode 12 miles in and 12 miles out every day.

Mountain Biker......but 40 miles!....I bet you fealt it in your thighs the next day. You probably know but the Sacramento River delta has some unbelievably beautiful scenery for road bikes, just don't get lost, you could go in circles forever if you don't mind your pos.

Keep if up Dude, I quit last year, it can be done I swear, and a day will come when you don't even crave one.

FFA...Nothing new. The darkies are always threatening to riot if they don't get their way.

About 20 years ago I was where you were at. Just quit smoking, I put on 30 lbs in about 4 months. My first bike was a Specialized Hardrock followed up by a Trek 1200 with 105 components. BTW the 105 stuff is 3rd from the top in the component line, still. I still don't have top of the line stuff. Currently a Specialized Allez with full Ultegra but its probably 6-8 lbs lighter than the Trek. I never did shave my legs not even when I did races. I was not a category racer I just did citizen races. In the bike club that I ride with, the racers like to give us amateurs a little grief once in a while. Of course they're all 20 and were all 50 so there is a give a take. You don't need more than what either you or Sparta have to appreciate bicycling anymore. Wear a helmet, you are game in traffic.

Vary distances. Short rides do for speed. Don't worry about time on long rides, they build endurance. I alternate bikes for my commute to work. I'll use the motorcycle every other day and the Specialized the other. I will go out on days on ride to motorcycle and ride the bicycle after work. Its 10 miles one way. On the bicycle I'll tend to race my time from previous times unless there is a wind (I hate wind), then its just hanging on to get there and back. I haven't had a cigarette in 21 years.
