Just a quickie, cos it's after midnight here and I will be in big trouble if anyone finds me awake and on the 'net.

The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act, 2006 precludes anyone who is on the barred lists from being a Regulated Activity Provider (someone in unsupervised charge of children and vulnerable adults).

I don't know this, but I do not imagine that someone who has a criminal record for, say, shoplifting, would be on a barred list in respect of children.

Good night, or morning by time you read this. I am aware of the current law, this is a new one. Please call them and ask one simple question, "Are all parents to be vetted", if you like you can ask what types of crimes may be included in respect to who get barred for contact with children. Have fun Leo.

I'll try to find out what I can, but I dunno if you know - I'm in a boarding school in Australia, and I have to get permission to make international calls, even to my mum in the UK. But my uncle, who is a QC in London, calls me often, so I will ask him.
