ie his felings of quilt for not doing the act
his fear of being seen as a coward
even the hero who saves his platoon
does so because he would feel quilt if he did not -he fears his quilt more than he fears the enemy
in other words a hero is not a hero because he does not show great courage in facing what he really fears ie that for which he would rather face death than face or deal with
